FAQ

What is real-time email verification?

Real-time email verification refers to the process of confirming the authenticity or existence of an email address account in real time. Its results are based on real-time analysis rather than on basic checks against the old & existing databases.

How does this plugin work?

This Email Validation plugin listens to email address capture flow for all major forms by hooking WordPress is_email() function to verify whether the user’s typed email address can be accepted or not. Behind the screen, the verification will be carried out using Clearout API and the results will be matched with the appropriate settings allowed by the plugin.

Which Clearout status will be considered as a “valid” email address?

Clearout status other than “invalid” will be considered as “valid” email address and the form submission will be allowed. Also, by default, the email address of “disposable” or “role” will be considered as “invalid.” These settings can be changed in the plugin settings.

Does email validation stop all bad emails?

No, Clearout email validation cannot prevent bad emails from entering your system in the following conditions:
1. If email validation takes longer than the specified timeout value
2. If the status of email validation is returned as unknown

What version of WordPress is required?

This requires a minimum WordPress version of 4.6, tested and compatible with the latest version.

Why does “Select Forms” have only a few forms listed?

We strive to bring Clearout email validation support to all major WordPress forms, in case if you see your form is not listed let us know (us@clearout.io). Alternatively, you can try using Clearout JavaScript Widget to bring support of email validation to any form with little or no coding effort

What is an API token and where can I get it?

The API token can be created or obtained by creating a ‘Server’ App from the Apps menu.

How to generate an API token?

Once logged in to your Clearout account click on ‘Apps’–> Click on ‘+ Create App’–> Choose ‘Server’-> Provide the required details –> Click on Create and the API token will be generated.

A credit represents the successful validation of a single email address. The trial account comes with 100 FREE credits. Additional credits can be purchased anytime and the credits will never expire.

Do you provide test email address?

Yes. For testing, you can find test email addresses to confirm that your integration works as intended without incurring credits.

What happens once the 100 free credits are exhausted?

You need to purchase additional credits. System will notify in advance when you are running out of credits (by default when below 50 credits)

I’ve been using Clearout on my Wordpress/Woocommerce site for over a year and it has mostly been transparent in validating emails. However, I recently had a situation where a repeat customer opened a support ticket with us and they could not place an order. Their email was being returned as “gibberish” by Clearout even though it had previously worked fine. I checked the log in Clearout and found this as well. While the plugin is working as expected, there should be a feature to skip email validation for users/emails that have a role within Wordpress. For example, my customers have a role of “Customer”. The only way I found to allow this customer to place an order was to add them to the white list in Clearout. Had the customer not reached out via a support ticket, I would have never known. Hopefully, this can be added as it would reduce the number of validations needed and prevent customer frustration.

Using the plug-in for several years now, on multiple websites. It works great and helps to avoid spammers and create better contacts. Our situation is as follows: We use a freemium model for some digital products and also provide free helpful sites. We only request to provide a name and e-mail to send the download link to. There was quite some abuse, until I started to use ClearOut Email Validator.

Since we’ve added Clearout to our site we’ve only had genuine members joining our platform. We’ve also had no more issues with after sales when customers buy from our online store and input their email incorrectly by accident. Clearout helps your users get their email right first time, which is amazing! The support is very proactive and helpful. The system to pay for this plugin is performance based – which is very fair. I highly recommend this plugin if you have a membership and / or ecommerce website – it’ll save you a lot of hassle and keep those ‘fake’ signups off your site!

I give 4 star for the work did by this plugin, exactly as per our requirement. I am really happy to use this plugin. But on rare, some mails skip the validation and reaches inbox which is not suppose to happen. Already informed the team on this. Waiting for the update from them.

Starting using this app a few weeks ago to verify my email addresses. App setup was pretty easy and started working straight away. It helped us refuse malformed email addresses which could affect our sender quality score. We then noticed a conflict with Ninja Forms so contacted their support. They immediately hooked up with Ninja Forms dev team and within a day or so they had successfully fixed the problem. 5* service and support. Highly recommend.
